FIRST YEAR WORK

Complex Space- The task was to take three cubes and apply three different 'commands' to each of them such as 'divide', 'pinch', or 'extrude'. From these forms I combined the forms treating one as a solid and another as a void, giving me a form with eight 'fins'. Taking this object, I multiplied it by three in the X, Y, and Z directions. The resulting form was this complex space.

A fellow classmate in first year studio created a simple form when trying to create his complex space project out of folded planes. The studio professor became highly interested in the idea and tweaked the design, leading to the mass production of over a thousand of these components that were used to create an the very first art installation in Chang Gallery (at KSU) by first year students. The above is a photo of my creation with the components.

One of the very first projects we were introduced to in first year. To create simple spaces, understand space, and hone our model-making skills.

The idea of this project was to get students thinking creatively, 'outside the (butterfly) box'. First year studies were pre-architecture semesters where we were taught basic skills while being introduced to interior architecture, landscape, and product design concepts.

The model included a diamond shaped lid that featured a moving mechanism that changed the size of the air holes, additional mesh air outlets near the bottom, a removable bottom which also held food and water, and built-in handles for easy transportation.
